Khabib Nurmagomedov: Conor McGregor should go to jail for alleged bar attack

As expected, lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is not happy with Conor McGregor’s latest potential legal woes.

Thursday, a video surfaced that appeared to show McGregor, a former featherweight and lightweight UFC champion, sucker punching a man at a bar, after he apparently refused a drink of McGregor’s Proper Twelve brand of whiskey.

The alleged incident took place in early April, Dublin police confirmed. After the man who appears to be McGregor walked into a bar and poured a few shots of his whiskey, a man seated at the bar pushed the glass away, which ultimately led to a sucker punch before McGregor was pulled away. The security camera video is silent.

Nurmagomedov is appalled at how the video has only surfaced now, after it supposedly happened over four months ago.

“I can imagine if I punch this guy, how many media are going to post it and talk about this bad, like about me bad,” Nurmagomedov told TMZ. “It’s like a really really bad thing, you know? Even if old guy like this guy in video, even if this guy punch your face 10 times, you can’t punch this guy’s face. You can’t. This is like impossible, you know? We have to respect old people.”

Dublin police confirmed to MMA Junkie on Thursday that the incident was being investigated, but McGregor was not named in the statement. But Nurmagomedov thinks McGregor should end up behind bars.

“Some fans sent me a message (and) said, ‘Hey, you remember when he tried to give you his whiskey, like alcohol, and you didn’t take it? But why he don’t punch you now he go crazy with old people? I don’t understand this. I think like this, people have to go to jail.

“They have to go jail like we have problem with visa, why like this (expletive) guy don’t have problems with visa in the U.S.A.? How (can the) U.S.A. give him a visa, or something like this?”

It’s no secret that Nurmagomedov and McGregor don’t like each other. After Nurmagomedov defended his title at UFC 229 by tapping McGregor out in the fourth round, a post-fight brawl ensued.

This chapter may not be closed after all.

“I told you guys, this guy has no class, no respect, this is very bad for sport,” Nurmagomedov said. “Some things he’s doing (are) good for sport, but right now he’s without his mind. He lose his mind. (The) government has to smash him.

“Ireland government, where are you guys? Send him location. Send him location, and that’s it.”

For now, though, “The Eagle” will have to focus on his upcoming fight vs. interim champ Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 when he attempts to unify the lightweight titles in September.
