Khabib's manager: Georges St-Pierre is next, not Tony Ferguson or 'irrelevant' Conor McGregor

According to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager, we won’t be seeing the UFC lightweight champion face either Tony Ferguson or Conor McGregor next.

Nurmagomedov (28-0 MMA, 12-0 UFC) submitted Dustin Poirier in the third round at UFC 242 to retain his title, and talks of his potential next started almost immediately.

At the UFC 242 post-fight news conference, UFC president Dana White confirmed that former interim lightweight champ Ferguson, who’s currently riding a 12-fight winning streak, would be next “if he wants the fight.”

But Nurmagomedov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, disagrees. Speaking to TMZ, he said a fight with former two-division champion Georges St-Pierre is what’s next.

“Nobody really cares about what Tony says,” Abdelaziz said. “Nobody gives a (expletive) really. As far as I know, GSP is next. That is what I want. Tony doesn’t get what he wants. We get what Khabib wants, and if Khabib calls me and says he wants Georges St-Pierre, Georges St-Pierre will be next.”

Nurmagomedov has expressed interest in fighting St-Pierre (26-2 MMA, 20-2 UFC) on numerous occasions. The undefeated 155-pound champion sees a fight with St-Pierre as a legacy fight, and the feeling is mutual.

Abdelaziz echoes the same sentiment and doesn’t believe that a fight with Ferguson has the same impact.

“Georges is my friend for 10 years, and I know Georges wants to fight Khabib,” Abdelaziz said. “If you’re going to compare Tony Ferguson, he beat a whole bunch of guys, but he never been a champion. I’m talking about if Khabib is going to fight for legacy, a fight with Georges St-Pierre will be a huge fight. Dana White is a business man. That’s why he’s the best promoter of all time. I think him and Georges St-Pierre make a lot more money and more headlines. People will care more. It’s a fight for who is the greatest of all time.”

While St-Pierre, 38, who retired earlier this year, never has competed at 155 pounds, Abdelaziz believes he can make the weight if he wanted to.

“Actually Georges walks around lesser weight than Khabib,” Abdelaziz said. “He walk around maybe 186 (pounds). Khabib walk around 190. I have no doubt in my mind, Georges can make the weight 100 percent. Will be great to see two legends fighting each other.”

And how about a McGregor rematch? Abdelaziz says there’s no chance it happens, even if McGregor is willing to do it in Moscow.

“Conor is like a sour ex-girlfriend; she can’t get anybody else,” Abdelaziz said. “This is what Conor is. He’s irrelevant, and you heard what Justin Gaethje said. He’s not a good person. The train has left him.”
