Magomed Mustafaev out, Don Madge now meets Fares Ziam at UFC 242

Don Madge lost his opponent for UFC 242, but it appears that a replacement has been found quickly.

After the withdrawl of Magomed Mustafaev for undisclosed reasons, newcomer Fares Ziam will step in to take on South Africa’s Madge in a lightweight bout. A person with knowledge of the booking told MMA Junkie on Wednesday. The person asked to remain anonymous since the UFC has not yet made an official announcement.

UFC 242 takes place Sept. 7 at The Arena at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and UFC Fight Pass/ESPN+.

Madge (8-3-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) made good on his UFC debut with a spectacular knockout over Te Edwards at UFC Fight Night 138. The “Magic Man” is on a five fight win streak, with all wins coming by the way of stoppage.

Ziam (9-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC)) is on a five-fight win streak of his own, most recently choking out Yassine Belhadj in the third round at European Beatdown 5. At only 22, the French-Algerian prospect will look to capitalize on a big career opportunity, when he takes on fellow prospect, Madge.

With the addition to the card, UFC 242 now includes:

  • Champ Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Interim champ Dustin Poirier
  • Edson Barboza vs. Paul Felder
  • Islam Makhachev vs. Davi Ramos
  • Shamil Abdurakhimov vs. Curtis Blaydes
  • Diego Ferreira vs. Mairbek Taisumov
  • Ottman Azaitar vs. Teemu Packalen
  • Liana Jojua vs. Sarah Moras
  • Belal Muhammad vs. Takashi Sato
  • Muslim Salikhov vs. Nordine Taleb
  • Omari Akhmedov vs. Zak Cummings
  • Joanne Calderwood vs. Andrea Lee
  • Puna Soriano vs. TBD
  • Zubaira Tukhugov vs. Lerone Murphy
  • Don Madge vs. Fares Ziam
