Randy Costa gets homecoming bout at UFC on ESPN 6 vs. Boston Salmon … in Boston

When UFC bantamweight Randy Costa steps into the cage at UFC on ESPN 6, he’ll square off with a man who shares a name with his home city. For the New England faithful in attendance, things could get pretty confusing after a few Sam Adams’ have been consumed.

The hometown favorite Costa (4-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will face Boston Salmon (6-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) Oct. 18 at TD Garden in Boston.

Both fighters will step into the octagon for the second time as they look to rebound from unsuccessful debuts at UFC 236.

A protege of longtime UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon, Taunton, Mass., native Costa made his UFC debut in April. Despite only having three pro bouts to his name, Costa went toe to toe with opponent Brandon Davis. While he landed his share of significant strikes, Costa was submitted in Round 2.

His opponent, Salmon, competed six times for Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) from 2014 to 2016. On the series premiere of Dana White’s Contender Series, Salmon became one of the first fighters to earn a UFC contract on the show.

After his UFC debut was canceled thrice, Salmon finally stepped into the cage in April against Khalid Taha. In just 25 seconds, Taha knocked out Salmon via punches.

The current UFC on ESPN 6 lineup includes:

Chris Weidman vs. Dominick Reyes
Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Calvin Kattar
Maycee Barber vs. Gillian Robertson
Eric Spicely vs. Brendan Allen
Deron Winn vs. Darren Stewart
Daniel Spitz vs. Tanner Boser
Randy Costa vs. Boston Salmon
